Christian Screenwrite Announces Winners of Second Annual Contest to Promote Spiritually Themed Screenplays

October 12, 2004 (Bloomfield, N.J.)--Christian Screenwrite today announced the winners of its 2004 Christian screenwriting competition. Winners will receive cash awards and passes to the WYSIWYG Film Festival, an internationally recognized event for wholesome, family cinema entertainment scheduled for October 20-23, 2004 in San Francisco.

Steve Warren of Austin, Texas won first place for his historical epic, MARCUS about Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius who once persecuted Christians until reportedly a rain miracle brought on by Christians saved his empire.

"I am deeply grateful for the Christian Screenwrite contest that seeks to find scripts that will satisfy Hollywood's desire for entertainment while yet holding to a Christian standard," said Warren.

Gary Burlingame of Bellevue, Washington won second place for his script, ORPHANS OF THE STORM, a drama about a Benedictine monk who left his monastery to face overwhelming odds in order to protect a group of children in the Children's Crusade of 1212. Robert Petrecca of Galloway, New Jersey won third place for THE ARMOR, about a foreign correspondent buried alive in the tomb of Christ.

"The scripts entered into this year’s competition continued to illustrate the wonderfully diverse skills of Christian screenwriters,” said LaVonne McIver James, founder of Christian Screenwrite. "We look forward to next year’s competition and to continuing to vigorously promote Christian scripts."
